LEAGUE DAY AT THE STATEHOUSE

Thank you for a successful League Day at the State House event! 55 (including Table Talk experts) attended League Day, and 29 people went to dinner and the show.

The table talks were well received and well attended.
Dinner at Buca di Beppo went well and the theatre production of Fannie was awesome. Thank you, Tracy de Martinez, for suggesting the performance at the IRT, directing us in securing tickets, arranging for the private room, and setting up the dessert buffet. It was a fabulous evening.

Thanks also go to Tom Gardiner for setting up the League Day Registration and Resources pages for League Day on the website and for taking the photos above and below (the rest can be seen HERE).Thanks also to the rest of the Special Events Committee members – Linda Hanson, Linda Dunn, Meg Connolly, and Pam Locker – who worked on this event.

WOMEN POWER DEMOCRACY!

League Day at the Statehouse marked the half-way point for the 2024 Indiana Legislative session. Whether you were able to participate or not, you may still have an impact on the legislation currently being considered in the Indiana General Assembly. But it takes all of us! The wetlands bill we opposed has already been signed into law by the Governor. Read more HERE and HERE. It also received attention from beyond our state borders in an article on the Audubon Great Lakes website and in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel because our wetlands have an impact on the larger region of which we are a part. To stay up to date and act on environmental or other issues, sign up for the advocate lists below. Thank you for using your voice to power democracy!

Our Zoom this month is Tuesday, February 27
5 p.m. EST / 4 p.m. CST

This year will see the largest worldwide electoral cycle until 2048, with over 80 national elections taking place, directly impacting an estimated 4.2 billion people. These elections will take place against a backdrop of heightened threats: technology companies are decreasing their investments in trust and safety; foreign influence operations are becoming increasingly prolific and effective; powerful generative AI tools are rapidly evolving; and the emergence of several partisan investigations in the United States have distracted policymakers and companies. Please join us for a discussion of how technology will impact elections worldwide, and how you can help defend the year of democracy.

Profiles of lesser-known heroines in the fight for women's rights

ELIZABETH FREEMAN (MUMBET)

“If one minute's freedom had been offered to me, and I had been told I must die at the end of that minute, I would have taken it.” A lifetime before the Emancipation Proclamation, when the finest minds of the Thirteen Colonies spoke loftily of independence and self-determination, an enslaved woman took her “master” to court to demand her freedom.
